Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT)

Would you like to advance your career as an athletic trainer?

Messiah University will soon offer a Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT). The MSAT will be a full-time, 57-credit program designed to prepare students to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam and to practice in traditional settings such as youth, high school, collegiate, and professional sports as well as physician-owned clinics. There is also a growing number of positions in emerging practice settings such as the performing arts, industrial settings, and work with tactical athletes such as police/fire/military personnel.

The program is being developed as an accelerated five-year program for undergraduate students and as a freestanding Master of Science degree with a two-year completion for those with a bachelor’s degree from another institution. Classes for the MSAT are planned to begin in summer of 2022; enrollment for the program will open in the summer of 2021.

The Messiah University's Athletic Training program is currently accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE), 6850 Austin Center Blvd., Suite 100, Austin, TX 78731-3101. The program is currently applying to the CAATE for a change in level of degree and is pending approval.

Completion of the MSAT at Messiah University will allow students to meet eligibility requirements to sit for the Board of Certification (BOC) exam for athletic training. BOC certification allows certified athletic trainers to apply for state licensure/certification/registration which will allow them to legally practice as an athletic trainer in their state of residence.
