Departure Policy for Educators Leading Cross-Cultural Courses in May Term or May Service Trips

Each May, during the week following commencement, educators have a series of required and enrichment workshops/meetings.  In order to ensure the integrity of these events, they are planned around the expectation of common availability.  All educators are required to attend Educators’ Day and their respective department and school meetings on Monday afternoon and Tuesday. Educators who teach in QuEST are required to attend the QuEST workshops on Wednesday and Thursday in the areas in which they teach. Educators are also required to attend at least two workshops or QuEST training sessions over Thursday and Friday.

Educators who lead May Term cross-cultural courses or May service trips may depart no earlier than the Friday of May Development Week.  Course leaders must meet the session attendance requirement established by the Provost’s Office.  Any exceptions for an earlier departure must receive approval. Requests for such exceptions must be communicated with supporting rationale to the Assistant Dean of General Education & Common Learning (for cross-cultural courses) or the Vice Provost (for service trips), who will bring the request to the Provost’s Cabinet for decision.  Exceptions will be approved only in rare circumstances.
