Department: Undergraduate Academic Advising
Reports To: Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising
Position Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Undergraduate Academic Advising, the Graduate Assistant will perform duties related to the University’s academic advising program and serve as an active member of the academic services team. This is a two-year, 20 hours/week, appointment not to exceed 800 hours/year.
Education Required: Bachelor’s degree required, current enrollment in Graduate Program in Higher Education at Messiah University.
Experience Required: Experience working in a setting that requires interaction with people is preferred. (e.g. office; retail; service industry, etc)

Primary Duties:
- Serve as an involved participant in all programs and services provided by the Office of Academic Advising.
- Develop advising resources for undergraduate students and faculty.
- Provide academic advising services to students through group workshops and individual consultation; serve as advisor for undeclared students.
- Identify and implement good practices regarding programming and resources for undeclared students.
- Assist with assessment of advising system.
- Research good practices for academic advising, student success, and evaluating advising.
- Utilize technology effectively to develop and disseminate high quality academic advising resources for students and academic advisors.
- Serve as editor and contributor for Academic Advising Newsletter.
- Assist with development and delivery of advisor training workshops.
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- Manage Undergraduate Academic Advisor Evaluation process, including development and distribution of survey and distribution of results
