Higher Education | Graduate Assistant, Men's Basketball (Messiah Campus)

Position Title:     Graduate Assistant, Men’s Basketball   

Department:      Athletics

Reports To:         Head Men’s Basketball Coach

Position Summary:  Under the supervision of the Men’s Basketball Coach, the graduate assistant will perform duties related to the Men’s Basketball Program and serve as an active member of the Men’s Basketball Coaching staff.  This is a two year commitment that runs from approximately August 4th – May 30 each of the two years.

Education Required:  Bachelor's degree required; current enrollment in one of the degrees within the graduate program in Higher Education at Messiah University.

Experience Required:  4 years of intercollegiate playing experience preferred.

Special Working Conditions:  Weekend and evening work as priorities demand.

 

Primary Duties

1.

Assist coaching staff in developing practice, game, and individual workout plans.

2.

Attend recruiting camps, showcases, prospect camps, and AAU events to identify prospective recruits.  Follow up through email, phone, and text to build relationships with athletes and their parents.  Assist them with scheduling campus visits and completing application materials.

3.

Participate in all basketball related team activities as directed by the head coach.

4.

Organize and conduct the Fall, Spring, and Summer team shootouts.  Including recruiting teams and developing the schedule of games for the day.

5.

Assist Head coach in running summer basketball camps.

6.

Manage the Men’s Basketball social media accounts and keep a constant flow of positive information being sent out to our fans, alumni, and potential recruits.

7.

Assist Head Coach with maintaining and keeping technology updated and working properly (ie: Synergy, Fastdraw, FastScout, Gamebreaker, Frontrush, video equipment….)

8.

Assist Head coach in developing Scouting reports for each contest using FastScout, FastDraw, and Synergy.  Be able to communicate scouting report to team in a practice setting.

9.

Develop Post game reports based off of Analytics and video breakdown conducted after each game.  Be able to communicate areas of improvement in individual meetings with players.

10.

Be able to coach Developmental Team games in either an assistant or head coaching capacity.

10.

Be available and eager to assist in any other aspect needed to run a first class men’s basketball program.
