Intercultural Education Coordinator

Position Summary: The Intercultural Education Coordinator (IEC) is responsible for planning and delivering intercultural education programming with the aim of promoting intercultural competence development and greater cross-cultural understanding on campus and in the community. The IEC has oversight of activities in three areas: a) Intercultural programming and assessment of cultural competence; b) leadership development of intercultural student leaders; c) community multicultural education. 

Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Intercultural programming and assessment of cultural competence - maintain and develop programming and resources that seeks to include all members of the LCC community in the intercultural learning experience through reflection, celebration, education, and interaction. Measure students’ intercultural competence to evaluate the success of programming and initiatives.  
  • Leadership development of Intercultural leaders. Recruit, train, and mentor student leaders to meet the goals of the Leadership Development Program in order to enhance their leadership skills through positive community impact and help them live as role models for others and develop future leaders. 
  • Community multicultural education. Educate broader community on topics of multiculturalism: human rights, cultural diversity, human trafficking, justice, equity, refugee crisis, stereotyping, prejudice, etc.  

General Qualifications: 

  • People-oriented, creative, sincere, with deep Christian faith.  Firm commitment to LCC's mission.  
  • Experience in student development and/or higher education and working with student populations. Understanding of developmental concerns of university-age populations. Ability to encourage personal growth in others. Ability to initiate relationships and develop rapport with undergraduate students and staff/faculty.  
  • Strong communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills. Excellent organizational, planning, time-management skills. Strong self-motivation and initiative.  

Job-specific qualifications:  

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required.  Master's degree in Intercultural Studies, International Relations, Community Development or similar, is preferred. 
  • Knowledge and appreciation of contemporary intercultural issues such as intercultural understanding, equity, and human rights, Ability to work independently and with others in order to meet program outcomes. Excellent written and public speaking skills. Ability to work effectively in a culturally diverse environment. Understanding of developmental concerns of youth populations. Ability to encourage personal growth in others (mentoring). Event coordination. Strong self-motivation and initiative.
