Post-baccalaureate teacher certification options
The Messiah University Graduate Program in Education currently offers Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) approved post-baccalaureate teacher certification programs. Our post-baccalaureate programs are designed for two populations of graduate students:
1. Teachers who have already earned a bachelor’s degree and an initial instructional Level 1 teacher certification who are looking to add certified areas of expertise to their existing credentials.
2. Candidates who have already earned a bachelor’s degree in a field other than education and who want to earn initial (Level I) teaching certification in PA (and/or another state that accepts PA teaching certification as a valid credential).
Students completing PA initial (Level 1) teaching certification will be enrolled in graduate degree tracks leading to a master’s degree in education (M.Ed.). Students may elect to complete all certification coursework first to expedite the process of becoming certified to teach. The remaining courses for the M.Ed. may be completed at a later time.
