End of Year - Check-out Info

2021 Check-Out Information!

  • When you check-out, your room or apartment should be clean and empty.  No items should be in the hallway.  See your check-out doortag for specific instructions of what to do to prepare for check-out.
  • Unless you are a graduating senior, you are expected to move out 24 hours after your last final (if your final is after 12 noon on Thursday, you must move out by noon on Friday when all residence halls and apartments close).  If there is a legitimate reason you need to stay beyond that, please fill out an Extended Stay Form.
  • Guests - Students may have up to two (2) non-campus guests help them move off of campus. These guests may enter the residential space, but should minimize their time in the campus residence as much as possible.
  • CHECK-OUT SCHEDULE – Schedule a check-out time with your RA by 8 am on Friday, April 30th! Look for your building/floor/section/RA's last name to sign-up. Failure to sign up for a check-out time will result in a $10/day fine. Available times to sign up are:

  • Using the link your RD will email you on April 21st:
    • Sign up for an appointment with your RA 8 am on April 30.
    • Even if you are leaving at the same time as your roommate, please sign-up for a seperate appointment.
    • After signing up you will receive a confirmation email with a link that allows you to cancel your appointment.  To change your appointment you'll need to cancel and then re-sign up.

    • THREE Steps for Check-Out –
      1. Sign-up for a check-out time by 8 am on Friday, April 30th.
      2. Complete all tasks on the check-out checklist posted on your door.  Oakwood apartments must call the On Clock RA number to have a Residence Life staff member come to your apartment and will do a thorough inspection for damage and cleanliness.  All other room and apartment residents can request a walk-through by calling your building’s On Clock number, if desired.
      3. Take your room key to a key drop box.  Note: failure to turn in your key will result in a $75 charge.
    • Key Drop Box Locations Will Be in the Following Four Locations:
      1. Fishbowl:  North Complex, Fry & Kelly & Special Interest Houses
      2. Naugle: Naugle
      3. Mountain View Bridge Lounge (by windows):  South Complex & Special Interest Houses
      4. Witmer: Witmer, Mellinger

  • To minimize in-person contact, Residence Life personnel will not be conducting individual in-person checkouts.
  • If you wish to be able to review your RCI/ACI/HCI before leaving your residence, contact your RA at least 24 hours ahead of time. The RA will go over the document with you.
  • Any damages not previously listed on the RCI/ACI/HCI will be subject to fines.
    • For those who choose not to have Residence Life personnel present, you are responsible for assuming any associated fines with damage not previously documented on your RCI/ACI/HCI.
  • If you would like for an RA to be present when you check out of your residence, call the RA On-Clock number.

  • After all occupants have moved out, the RD will do a final inspection.  If the room/apartment does not pass final inspection and/or the resident(s) has (have) not completely followed the check-out procedures, the RD will assess any charges.  All billing notifications will be sent to your Messiah email account from the Office of Residence Life and charges will appear on your billing statement from the Business Office.
