Graduate Assistant, Student Affairs (Toccoa Falls College campus)

Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Student Affairs

Reports to: Vice President for Student Affairs

The Division of Student Affairs exists to develop students holistically through programs and initiatives that promote a dynamic, Christ-centered community. 

The Division of Student Affairs consists of the following departments/responsibilities:

Position Summary: The Division of Student Affairs seeks one master’s level graduate student to work closely with the Vice President of Student Affairs developing and implementing strategies to increase retention and to increase student engagement within the various areas of Student Affairs.  This is a two year, 20 hours a week position.  Commitment runs from August 1 – May 31 each of the two years.

Primary Duties:

  • Coordinate the social media efforts of Odyssey Coffeehouse and Career Services.
  • Lead group workshops pertaining to career needs such as resume preparation, interview skills, job search, business etiquette, etc.
  • Prepare and conduct a broad range of outreach programs focused on career skills to classes, student groups (i.e., clubs, organizations, RA’s, etc) and other groups.  
  • Plan and execute 2 – 3 job/grad school fairs each year.
  • Assist the Vice President with retention efforts.
  • Work collaboratively with other offices/departments across campus to further advance the mission of Student Affairs.
  • Assist the Vice President with the design and implementation of programs related to the current QEP: Increasing Intercultural Competencies.

Secondary Duties:

  • Maintain a schedule of 20 hours per week
  • Be available to attend meetings, programs, and events outside of the normal work day (evenings & weekends)
  • Communicate regularly and attend meetings
  • Meet regularly with supervisor
  • Integrate curricular and assistantship responsibilities by discussing and applying current issues in higher education and student affairs
  • Share knowledge about current issues in higher education, student affairs, and broader culture
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education required: Bachelor's degree required; current enrollment in one of the degrees within the graduate program in Higher Education at Messiah University.

Experience required: Experience in Student Affairs as an undergraduate, e.g. Resident Assistant, Student Government, Discipleship Coordinator
