Degree programs - Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science

Our academic programs

We have five distinct majors in the Department of Health, Nutrition and Exercise Science. If you are interested in a scientific view of health and how exercise affects health, consider our Applied Health Science major. Depending on their interests and passions, students from this major enter into wellness and fitness professions or health professions such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, medicine, etc.

If you are interested in working with athletes in using the latest scientific evidence to treat and prevent injuries, check out our Athletic Training accelerated program. Many students use athletic training as a path to physical therapy, as well.

Our Health and Physical Education major is a path for students who want to become certified to teach health and physical education in primary or secondary schools.

If you are interested in applying nutrition science to help improve the health of individuals or communities the Nutrition and Dietetics major provides the knowledge and skills to take the national nutrition and dietetic technician, registered (NDTR or DTR) examination or to apply to an ACEND-accredited dietetic internship in pursuit of the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN or RD) credential.

If you are interested in working in the front offices of sports or athletics organizations, our Sport Management major offers valuable classroom and practical experiences toward that goal.
