SOAR Peer Mentoring Program
About the Program
The Soar Peer Mentoring Program is an initiative out of the Office of Student Success to primarily support new first-time students, but is for any Messiah student desiring peer mentorship.
Peer learning and support is the foundation of the program. By equipping current upperclass Messiah students to serve in the role of a mentor, we hope that intentional friendships and impactful relationships can be formed. Ultimately, the program is designed to help students transition to college, find belonging in the Messiah community, and grow personally.
Students in the SOAR Program can expect to experience:
- Early arrival to campus on Wednesday, August 16th 2023
- Specific welcome week activities for the program
- Monthly in-person meetings with peer mentor
- Life Talks to engage in topics related to personal growth and development
- Consistent text/group chat communication from mentors during the semester
- Planned group activities
- Semester-end celebrations
IMPORTANT INFORAMTION FOR MOVE-IN
Soar Program early arrival students will check in between 12:00 PM-3:30 PM on August 16th. There is no sign up necessary.
Please check in at the circulation desk at the Kim S. Phipps Welcome Center. From there, you will be directed next door to the Office of Residence Life and Housing to receive your keys.
Some of our office staff will be at each residence hall to assist students with move-in. Please reference the campus map to identify where your dorm is located. We can also assist you in finding your dorm if you have any questions.
Please park in the Visitor Lot next to the Kim S. Phipps Welcome Center to check in. After you check in, you can drive your car to your dorm building to unload your belongings. No special passes are necessary to park on campus.
FALCON ID & CAMPUS STORE
If you have time to spare after moving in, you can stop by the Falcon Exchange in Eisenhower Campus Center on the second floor to receive your student ID card and/or visit the Campus Bookstore to pick up some Messiah swag! Please be advised that if you are unable to visit either location, you can plan to stop by on Thursday or Friday.
If you are a student involved in another program/group, please notify us if you have any questions with scheduling conflicts.
1. To support Student Success Pathway students as they transition to college and persist towards their next year at Messiah.
2. To provide peer leadership opportunities to current Messiah students.
