Jenny Mardis
- 2001

HDFS Major, Criminal Justice minor

Additional Education: None

Job Title: Treatment Specialist

Employer: Dauphin County Prison

Position Description: Jenny is the women's counselor. She plans curriculum, runs support/educational groups on various topics, and she also does individual counseling.

Salary Range: $30,000 - $35,000

Previously Held Positions: Family based counselor and domestic violence counselor

Courses Found Most Helpful: Courses on theory, human development, diversity, and the Strategies project. The Strategies project taught her how to plan curriculum and implement it and when she first started out, it was something she used all the time.

How HDFS Program Helped to Prepare her: It prepared me more than I ever realized it would. I work with a very diverse population of people and I have to draw on much of what I learned as a Family Studies major to prepare curriculum. The knowledge I have gained of Family Studies and different theoretical approaches has been vital to my success as a counselor. In addition, the most important thing I learned at Messiah College was compassion for the world around us and the vital role we as counselors and human service workers play in that world.
