Job Title: Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program Manager
Employer: Community Counseling Services (Region 7 of the State Department of Mental Health)
Position Description: Kristen is responsible for developing and maintaining a program for approximately 30 psychiatrically disabled individuals, to improve their social, educational, and vocational skills. I also keep detailed charts on each individual, submit billing to Medicaid, and supervise program staff.
Salary Range: $25,000 - $35,000
Previously Held Positions: Kristen has had three previous positions. She worked as an Activities Therapist at Philhaven Psychiatric Hospital ( Mt. Gretna, PA), doing group therapy with adults, and similarly she worked at The Keystone Center (Harrisburg, PA), as a Therapist, doing group therapy, individual therapy, and treatment planning. She also worked at Metropolitan Day School ( Richmond, VA) as a Counselor, doing group therapy, individual therapy, treatment planning, and intake assessments with adolescents.
Courses Found Most Helpful: Dynamics of Family Interaction, Marital Relationships, Interpersonal Relationships, Adolescent Development, and Adult Development.
How HDFS Program Helped to Prepare her: In all of my jobs, I am working with people who are influenced tremendously by their environment and their families. It would be impossible for me to counsel clients effectively without understanding the Family Systems Theory. Additionally, learning about human development in all stages has provided necessary insight to provide the support my clients need.
How Her Faith Interfaces with Her Work: “My faith has had a tremendous impact upon my work. Jesus placed a great emphasis on compassion, healing, and on helping people become whole. I try to follow this example in my work. As a Psychosocial Rehabilitation Program Manager, I have the unique opportunity to help others begin the healing process, and provide them with some of the tools they need to feel whole.”
